Claymills Victorian Pumping Station
Claymills Victorian Pumping Station
This is railway end entrance lobby of C/D engine house and the two big red vessels are 'air vessels' that contained compressed air above the sewage and acted as shock absorbers to smooth out the pump impulses of the steam pumping engines. Top left is one of the original gas lighting jets that were replaced by DC electric lighting in 1900.
