A series of locks, 5 on the Crinan side and 4 towards Cairnbaan, take the canal across the top of the Kintyre peninsula. They generate queues of pleasure boats on busy days - the only alternative being the long haul around Mull of Kintyre many miles south. Dunardry locks is the ladder of 3 locks closest to Crinan.
