The Spinc and Glenealo Valley route is a popular 9 km walking route from Glendalough which climbs over the Spinc and high above Glenealo, before returning down the valley past the Miner's Village and the Lake. A large proportion of the outward part of the route is on boardwalk as shown here. It consists of two sleepers laid lengthways side by side. Where the lie of the land requires they are stepped. To prevent slipping, the steps are covered in chicken wire and secured with staples.

The Upper and Lower Lakes of Glendalough can be seen far below. Note - the location of the lake on Googlemap is grossly inaccurate.
