Hartlepool railway station, County Durham, 2011
Opened in 1880 as 'West Hartlepool' by the North Eastern Railway on what is now the line from Stockton to Sunderland, this replaced an earlier 1841 terminus station that had been around 350m east of here. In 1967 the name changed to Hartlepool.
View east, although the line soon turns south towards Seaton Carew and Stockton. Only the right- hand track and platform were in use by passenger trains when this image was taken. In 2023-4, the left hand platform was rebuilt and a new footbridge and lifts added. See NZ5132 : Hartlepool railway station, County Durham for a 2024 view from a similar camera position.
