Boats and hangars
The large building seen in the background is a Butler Shed (with added lean-tos). It was bought crated up and in new condition and was intended for a War time airfield but has never been erected anywhere previously (source: Mr Robert Richardson).
As part of the 1950s rebuilding program for UK airfields used by the USAF, the 3rd Air Force drew up specifications for a set of standardised buildings. These were built by Laing with their own post-war pattern of hutting, with Butler Shedding for the larger sections as required. Examples could until recently still be seen at RAF Lakenheath and RAF Mildenhall (both in Suffolk) and RAF Upper Heyford in Oxfordshire.
