Jenny Frisk Road
Jenny Frisk Road
Who was Jenny Frisk? A search in Google reveals some pretty unsavoury sites. But she has a road named after her, an unsurfaced track climbing from Boosbeck to Low Moor. It's officially a public road, meaning cars can be driven up it.

I have since been informed that Jenny Frisk was in fact a local woman who was drowned in a well near the top of the lane because she was believed to have been a witch. A classic case of witch ducking I fear. If she survived she was in league with the devil. If she was drowned she was innocent.

Locally the lane is known as 'Tip Lane' on account there used to be a open land fill site up it. The northern end, near Boosbeck, was named as 'Mutton Scalp Road' on old O.S. 2" to the mile maps (Pronounced 'Mutton Scawp'). 'Jenny Frisk Road' referring to the straighter higher section.
