SU0061 : Anstie's factory

taken 9 years ago, near to Devizes, Wiltshire, England

Anstie's factory
Anstie's factory
The former woollen mill and manufactory in New Park Street was built in 1785 for John Anstie. The detailed frieze in the tympanum depicts many images of the processes: sheep, shepherds, shears right through to the fulling, carding, spinning and weaving of the products. Naturally, Anstie forms the centrepiece with the family coat of arms above him. The derrick above the entrance serves as another reminder of the original use of the buildings.
