Now the Clydeport building, this spectacular Italian Baroque-style landmark was designed by Glasgow architect J. J. Burnet between 1882-86 and extended between 1905-8.

The Clyde Navigation Trust was established by an Act of Parliament in 1858, and brought city fathers, shipbuilders, merchants and industrialists together to develop and manage the river and its trade.
