The "new" Old Shambles
Sinclair's Oyster Bar (right of centre) in Shambles Square, Manchester, started serving oysters in 1845 (previously known as John Shaw's Punch House since 1738). In 1971 the building was lifted during the Arndale Centre development, and in 1997 (during redevelopment following the 1996 IRA bombing of the city centre) the building was moved about 100 metres to this location by Exchange Square, along with its neighbour, the Old Wellington Inn (left of centre). This inn is one of the oldest buildings in Manchester, having existed since at least 1552.
