This building is used by the Ilkeston and Hallcroft Detachments of the Derbyshire Army Cadet Force.
The first Drill Hall in the town was opened in 1909 by the Duke of Devonshire. It was on Stanton Road, at the junction with Havelock Street. The hall was used for 20 years until the opening of this building on 21st June 1930. Council minutes of the General Works Committee, dated 4th March 1909, show that approval was given for the Stanton Road hall for "The Armoury".
This Drill Hall was threatened with closure in 1961 when training was transferred to Nottingham and with lack of support for the TA (Territorial Army), as described by a reporter for the Ilkeston Pioneer. Officers of the Sherwood Foresters launched a "Save the Hall" campaign to boost membership.
The first Drill Hall, on Stanton Road stood on the site of the house shown in
SK4641 : Stanton Road and Havelock Street, Ilkeston.
