Flight of Swans
Whooper Swans (Cygnus columbianus) are winter visitors. They breed in Iceland and elsewhere in the far north, and increasing numbers of them are wintering in Moray. You can easily tell them from the resident Mute Swans (Cygnus olor) because as their name suggests they have a whooping call, while Mute Swans are .... well .... mute. Whoopers also hold their necks stiffly vertical, and have black-and-yellow beaks, while Mutes hold their necks in a graceful curve and have orange on their beaks.
