NZ0246 : Leat below Hisehope Reservoir

taken 9 years ago, 3 km from Waskerley, County Durham, England

Leat below Hisehope Reservoir
Leat below Hisehope Reservoir
A leat transfers water from the Hisehope Reservoir to the Smiddy Shaw Reservoir. There is only a five metre drop along the leat which follows the contour between the two for 2 km. As a result, flow is sluggish and the leat is partly choked with vegetation. There are a number of footbridges over the leat, as here. Hisehope House can be seen in the middle distance.
