taken 9 years ago, near to Strathpeffer, Highland, Scotland
Strathpeffer’s Spa Gardens is home to five, four metre tall, four-tonne wooden sculptures created by woodcarver Allister Brebner. Allister works in premises within the former Strathpeffer railway station, and his sculptures were moved to their present positions in the Spa Gardens in 2007.
The sculptures represent local myths and legends from Celtic, Viking and Pictish culture. Each of the five pieces is carved from trunks of giant Douglas Firs which came from the Novar Estate in Evanton.
The sculpture project was funded by Highland 2007, Ross and Cromarty Enterprise, Awards for All and the North British Trust. The gardens are in the care of Strathpeffer Community Council.
