Pevsner suggests that the south wall of St Mary's Church may be Saxon, and the nave and chancel are early as well. There was much restoration in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The lozenge graves, as described in the opening scenes of 'Great Expectations' are common in Kent churchyards. There is a whole row of them here.
