The Walworth Estate first appears as Peabody Buildings on the Ordnance Survey map of 1914-21. It replaced cramped terraced houses. It's interesting that the spectacular Heygate Estate to the northwest, which appears to date from the early 1970s, is being demolished and redeveloped; Peabody housing has outlasted it.
Peabody Trust housing

The Trust was established in 1862 to provide model dwellings for London’s poor. Its blocks of flats offered a high standard of accommodation for their times. By 1939 the Trust owned more than 8,000 dwellings throughout London. It operates today as the housing association Peabody LinkExternal link LinkExternal link
