Fraoch-eilean
The island is the site of the famous massacre of M'Leods by the Macrae archers. M'Leods at the behest of Mor Ban (supposed witch with a winning prophecy) went to recapture Gairloch from the Mackenzies. They snook up to the island from Skye, but had been observed so the Macrae brothers (Domhnull Odhar MacIain Leith and Iain Odhar MacIain Leith) who stationed themselves on the shore (at Leac-nan-Saighead now Leacnasaide the flat stone of the arrows) commanding a view of the island. Come first light and the arrows rained down causing confusion and panic. The M'Leods tried to make a quick getaway in their birlinn (one was pinned to the mast by a well aimed arrow) but only two lived to tell the tale. The abandoned corpses were buried on the island.
