The cereal crop is enjoying a good wetting from the last few days, following a warm spell of growth for the month before that. About five metres is left unplanted at the edge of the (not especially mature) woodland, and the iron fence is draped with old straw and foliage, presumably as extra cover for the many pheasant lurking in Rous's Covert.
