Clugston Loch
Clugston Loch
Though perhaps not immediately obvious, the loch is frozen over.
Clugston Loch used to provide the water supply for a mill at Spittal Croft (LinkExternal link ) controlled by a secondary dam just downstream from here: LinkExternal link . The shoreline of the loch shows evidence of the water level having been several feet higher in the past, and the current outlet burn runs through an artificially deepened channel with a concrete weir at the upper end. Presumably at one time there would have been a sluice on the burn to control the outflow.
