NH9159 : Culbin Forest and Bars
3 km from Kingsteps, Highland, Great Britain

Culbin Forest and Bars
The offshore bars have been formed by shingle swept westwards by the force of tides and winds. Part of the area is now an RSPB reserve. At the very bottom of the image, just to the right of the aircraft wing, is the very end of Nairn Dunbar Golf Course, with the path from Kingsteps to the shore alongside it. Just to the left of where the path reaches the path along the edge of the marsh is the Minister's Pool. At upper right are the two parts of Loch Loy, and Findhorn Bay is at top centre. The pecked shape of the landward side of the Culbin Bar is formed by successive curved banks of shingle piled up by the sea.
