TQ1974 : Oaks and elders, near Holly Lodge paddock

taken 9 years ago, near to Mortlake, Richmond Upon Thames, England

Oaks and elders, near Holly Lodge paddock
Oaks and elders, near Holly Lodge paddock
Just east of Holly Lodge paddock, at the north-west edge of Barn Wood. Elders are not a common species in the unenclosed areas of the Park - saplings are too easily destroyed by browsing deer. If my memory is correct, the elders seen here grew up within the protection of the paddock, at a time when that extended further eastward.

Richmond Park is a National Nature Reserve.
