Eye to eye with an adder
Eye to eye with an adder
There is a healthy adder population in this square, which is right on the edge of an extensive area of moorland. This one has recently emerged from hibernation in a rock pile. March and April is a good time to spot adders as they spend many hours 'lying out' in the sun close to their winter hideaways prior to dispersing more widely in the surrounding area.
