TM4396 : Sculpture with "eyes"
taken 9 years ago, near to Haddiscoe, Norfolk, England
The forge is an 18th century village smithy and there is evidence that a forge has stood on this site for over 1000 years.
Known as St Mary's Forge, because it is located adjacent to St Mary's church, it is currently the workshop of Wendy Alford and forge master Dave Townsend. Over the years Wendy and Dave have been involved in many restoration projects, including the forged steel railings in the pedestrian precinct in the centre of Reading; the gates at Regent’s Park; ironwork to the roofs of the Victoria & Albert Museum and the Natural History Museum and the Tower of London railings as well as making reproductions of the historic wrought ironwork at the Tudor kitchens of Hampton Court. Dave also designed and forged the balcony balustrade for the Institute of Watercolourists at Piccadilly and the staircase balustrade for Harrods.
