Queen's Ride
The house in the distance is White Lodge, and the queen in question was Victoria.
At its eastern end (seen here) the ride runs through Duchess Wood, for the most part a plantation of native oak, along with later plantings of beech and exotic oaks. Further west (behind the camera) Queen's Ride runs through Sawpits Plantation, which like Duchess Wood dates from the days when Lord Sidmouth was Ranger, in the mid-19th century.
These days, Richmond Park is a National Nature Reserve.
