TQ0446 : Elms by Blackheath Lane

taken 9 years ago, near to Albury, Surrey, England

Elms by Blackheath Lane
Elms by Blackheath Lane
As elsewhere in Surrey, there are plentiful elm suckers in the hedgerows around here. But there are also fair numbers of well-grown trees - surviving rather than thriving. The tree seen here is bigger than most - and though at first glance it seems in poor condition there is plenty of recent end-growth.

The little gate gives access to a pedestrian level-crossing across the Reading-Redhill railway line. At this point Blackheath Lane runs at a level maybe 30 feet below the footpath that runs alongside it. Link
