SH7070 : Perched erratic boulders

taken 9 years ago, near to Carnedd y Ddelw [antiquity (non-Roman)], Gwynedd, Great Britain

Perched erratic boulders
Perched erratic boulders
Large boulders that have tumbled down from outcrops at higher altitude remain perched high on the valley slope. It is possible that their descent was originally arrested by stagnant ice during the last glacial period, since in its absence there is nothing to prevent them rolling to the foot of the slope. Below can be seen the track used by reservoir maintenance vehicles.
