The sculpture of a digger, made by students from bricks and other building materials, can be seen in the background (at left). The machinery is parked in front of a C-type aircraft hangar > Link.

When RAF Bircham Newton was closed and two years later sold by public auction in November 1964, the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) purchased the site and has been using it ever since, retaining many of the old buildings. The College has eight campuses and training centres across the UK and also provides Health and Safety, Leadership and Management and Sustainability training at more than 40 other locations across the country. The Bircham Newton site is believed to be the largest construction training site in Europe. This picture shows a view of the former flying field which is used for construction training. The site is not open to the public - the photo was taken by kind permission of the management.
