As best I can make out, the inscription reads (words in [] are not fully legible):-

To the memory of the worthy Maude Heath of Langley Burrell, Widow.

Who in the year of Grace 1474, for the good of travellers, did in charity bestow, in land and [houses], about Eight Pounds a year, forever to be laid out, in the Highways and Causey leading from Wick Hill to Chippenham [Chff]

This pillar was set up by these [offees] in 1698
