By Thomas Oliver and John Dobson for Richard Grainger in 1825-31 (ie before the development of Grey Street, Grainger Street and Clayton Street). Originally there was a similar west range; the northern range had a taller central section. All but the east side (above) was demolished in the 1960s - still, culture's loss is the shoppers' gain.
