The present museum building, opposite St George’s Hall, opened in 1860 as the William Brown Library and Museum. It is a grade II* listed building (English Heritage Building ID: 359739
Link British Listed Buildings).
The elevated viewpoint provided by the Radio City gallery gives a good view of the formal layout of the St John's Gardens which can be seen in front of the museum.
