Sundial, Lowgill Church
The base plate has a message which must have really cheered up anyone in the 17th Century who just wanted to know what time it was.
'As the long hours do pass away So doth the life of man decay'
1630.
'Long Liffe ye King Charles' (King Charles I who, as you will recall, came to a sticky end). Just to make sure you get the point there is a skull and scythe included.
