SZ2499 : Wootton, débris dam

taken 9 years ago, near to Wootton, Hampshire, England

Wootton, débris dam
Wootton, débris dam
One of three such dams on the stretch of Avon Water next to Wootton Coppice Inclosure. The débris appears large enough to have been deliberately placed; if so, this is presumably an attempt to slow the flow of a brook that appears to have been straightened in the past; a positive side effect is to improve the neighbouring alder and oak carr.
