Stromatolite
Stromatolite
Stromatolites are formed by microbes which deposit carbonate minerals in thin layers over hundreds of years, gradually growing into dome-shaped structures with a layered interior. This one is over 720 million years old, and has been broken open by weathering so that its internal strcuture can be seen.
