TF8038 : Fence around wooded pit
taken 17 years ago, near to Stanhoe, Norfolk, England
Fence around wooded pit
This is one of many old field pits that are now wooded oases in the midst of arable farming. This one is unusual for its elaborate perimeter defences: vegetation killed back, electric fence, and 2m fence with outward overhang. I assume this pit is used for raising young game birds (there are a number of low shelters inside further around). The farmer must have radar because just after this picture was taken he appeared in his 4x4 pickup and told me that I was off the public footpath - true! I grovelled and he went on his way and I on mine and I never did ask why the defences were so elaborate.
