Thomas Greene memorial, Chester Cathedral
Thomas Greene memorial, Chester Cathedral
Thomas Greene, immortalized in stone with his first wife, Ellen Brascye, to his left and his second wife, Dorothie Davenport to the right. He was mayor of Chester in 1565 and died in 1602. The blazon of his splendid arms is: Gules, a lion rampant per fesse Argent and Sable, crowned Or, and charged on the shoulder with a trefoil Vert (record of the Heraldic Visitation to Cheshire, 1580). I will update the caption with his wives' blazons if I find out more. The arms of the City of Chester: Gules three Lions passant guardant in pale Or (for England) dimidiating Azure three Garbs Or (for the Earl of Chester) are at the bottom of the memorial.
