J0818 : Steep hill above Killeen
near to Edentober and Jonesborough, Louth, Ireland

Steep hill above Killeen
This hill, climbing up from Killeen to the Clermont Pass over the Cooley Mountains is one of steepest, longest hills I have encountered in my 55-year cycling career. Not perhaps quite up to the standard of the Wrynose and Hardknott Passes in the Lake District, but still a severe test of man and machine. What makes it worse is that it is almost straight so the full magnitude of the hill is all too apparent. Magnificent views open up behind as you climb. Straight ahead is the Cloghogue Mountain J0823 whilst to the left and a little further away is Ballymacdermot Mountain J0624.
