Stopped here to eat lunch. Was interested in the large hole in the sign. I'm used to seeing road signs peppered with air-gun pellets, but this was something else !! See NY7867 : What the heck was fired at this sign
The lime kiln is known as Crindledykes and is the only kiln in Nothumberland with four draw arches in a single pot. It dates from the 19c and produced quicklime from local limestone for building and for improving fields after being slacked with water. Production would have ceased in the early 20c when cheaper supplies became available.
