I last photographed this in September 2010 when work had yet to commence in earnest. SH7877 : Helen II - a Nobby Prawner
Since then the hull has virtually been rebuilt.
This vessel was originally built in 1910 by Crossfields a local boat builders. It is 40' long built of an oak frame with pitch pine.
In the 19th C, this type of vessel was a common working boat on the North Wales coast and Liverpool Bay. It acted as a prawn and shrimp fishing boat but could also be used as a beam trawler, herring drifter and long liner.
The Helen II also won a number of racing awards.
Owned until recently by the Roddick family it was donated by them in memory of their son who died of cancer at the early age of 34.
It is currently undergoing restoration involving local skills and enterprise being used.
