Bourne in Bloom
The railings of 'the pigpen' (see the description in TF0920 : Pedestrian island in the town centre at Bourne, Lincolnshire) have a number of flower boxes, part of the huge effort being made for the 'Britain in Bloom' competition. Or, I suppose, 'East Midlands in Bloom', which was the competition for which the town was awarded a Silver Gilt medal in 2014. Much of the credit for getting this organised, year on year, goes to the indefatigable Nelly Jacobs at the town council. The gardeners are desperate to get a gold medal, but have never quite managed it, though several silver gilt medals down the years are a fine achievement.
