Adeiladwyd tomen a beili yma gan y Normaniad yn ystod yr unfed ganrif ar ddeg o bosib. Mae gweddillion y castell presennol yn dyddio o'r drydedd ganrif ar ddeg. Dinistriwyd y castell gan Owain Glyndwr yn ystod degawdau cyntaf y bymthegfed ganrif.

The Normans built the first motte and bailey castle possibly during the latter part of the eleventh century. The present ruins date from the early twelfth century. During the early 15th century the castle was captured and largely destroyed by forces of Owain Glyndwr.
