Ruined Church of St. Mary's at Little Chart
St. Mary's was built in three phases between the years 1200-1500 AD, and was reduced to its present picturesque, but ruinous state, as a result of enemy action during the second world war. At just before 8pm on 16th August 1944, the rocket engine of a V1 flying bomb, or 'Doodlebug', cut out in the skies above Kent, and like so many others, fell short of its intended target, and landed instead upon the church. Although the resultant explosion devastated St.Mary's, mercifully, no lives were lost in the incident. A new church, bearing the same name, was built in 1955, in square TQ9445
