Drowned forest at Borth
Drowned forest at Borth
Mainly birch and alder tree remains preserved as a peat layer - carbon dated at 6000 BP - covered in summer as foreshore builds up - exposed in winter. Bar advanced over it as sea levels rose post-glacial. This is not a spit feature, but a bar driven onshore by rising sea levels.
