The Resurrection.
St Mary the Virgin church, Hartpury

Grade I listed.
Dating from 12th C. today's nave is what remains, however there was probably a Saxon church before that.
The tower, originally detached from the church, chancel and porch were added in 14th C. A Norman south door was also blocked up.
Hartpury was then the country residence of the Abbots of Gloucester. The Abbey's Tithe Barn still exists,
and is the largest in Gloucestershire.
There were few alterations to the church after the 14th C. although it was restored in 1882.
The churchyard contains a tomb chest with effigy of Thomas Sloper d. 1703, although it is quite weathered.
Just beyond the churchyard is the intriguing Bee Shelter.
