A busy junction on the road to Dublin, and the freshly planted sign does have some significance. Unlike the UK, Ireland decided it was pointless buying fuel in litres, and showing road distances in kilometres, but the speed limits were in miles per hour! In 2005 it was decided to bite the bullet, and end this half-way house, gone were the limits of 30, 40, 50, 60 & 70 mph, and all the roads across the country were converted to metric speeds. Just so motorists couldn't say they forgot - these metric reminder signs were erected.
