This artwork used to stand on Centenary Square until 17 April 2003 when it was destroyed by fire. It was cast in polyester resin which sadly contributed to its demise. The work was by the Birmingham born Sculptor, Raymond Mason and was unveiled in 1991. Though controversial, this work represented the march of Birmingham from its smokey industrial past into the future. Among the figures featured included that of Joseph Chamberlain with his monocle, and Josiah Mason, founder of the University, with an armful of books. I liked this sculpture and think its destruction by fire a great loss. SP0686 : Forward! by Raymond Mason #2 SP0686 : Forward! by Raymond Mason #3 SP0686 : Forward! by Raymond Mason #4
