SK2999 : Engine house, Wortley Top Forge
near to Wortley, Barnsley, Great Britain

Engine house, Wortley Top Forge
This houses a vertical compound steam engine from Clough House Mill, Slaithwaite. I was minimally involved with its removal in about 1976. I was there the day the crankshaft slipped in its chain sling and punched a hole through the flagstone floor below - hairy! Fortunately we were all above the action and the fat end (the crank) was caught by the chains (or it would have all ended up in the basement). Other hazards included biting ants.
