The Wheat Barn, Cressing Temple (2): from the north
This is pretty much the first view you get of the Templars' wheat barn if you arrive by road. The shot shows the erratic ups and downs of the roof-line - evidence of the ravages of centuries. The barley barn, which is reckoned to be slightly older, is just out of shot to the right. Its orientation is roughly at right-angles to the wheat barn's. Both barns date from the 13th century.
We arrived late in the day, in failing light - and soon it began to rain. But that meant the place was all but deserted, with a minimum of 21st-century distractions.
