Corgarff Castle, Strathdon (20miles north of Braemar)
I took this photograph as we started a 6 hour walk around the nearby Brown Cow Hill which is a "Corbett" i.e. between 2500 and 3000 feet.
The Castle sits high above the start of the difficult Cockbridge to Tomintoul Road ( The Lecht).
The infant river Don flows eastwards on its north side emerging high on the nearby hills.
The castle is a visitor attraction which belongs to Historic Scotland and has recently been given a makeover.
