Over 135 years since the canal closed the canal is well filled in almost up to the underside of the bridge.
Herefordshire & Gloucestershire Canal

The Herefordshire and Gloucestershire Canal (also known as the Hereford and Gloucester Canal) is a 34mile canal which ran from Hereford to Gloucester, where it linked to the River Severn. It was opened in two phases in 1798 and 1845, and closed in 1881. The canal had 23 8ft wide locks.

Much of its remnants are still visible though silted up, overgrown or covered over. Some sections are still well intact.

Herefordshire & Gloucestershire Canal Trust ambitiously aims to complete a full restoration of the canal. Though only the basin and a short stretch at the Gloucester end at Over has been restored so far.
