Mud and Sand it says on the map and somewhat treacherous underfoot in places as shown by my deep footprints. It was here or hereabouts on 1st November 1909 that, for the first time, a British aviator (J T C Moore-Brabazon, later Lord Brabazon), piloting a British designed, built and engined plane, succeeded in accomplishing a circular flight of one mile. Information from a board in the nearby car park. See also LinkExternal link .
