NY6661 : War Memorial near Kellah (detail)
taken 9 years ago, near to Rowfoot, Northumberland, England
Crucifix, with gable top, about 12 feet high, on slender octagonal shaft resting on octagonal pedestal which rests on a two octagonal steps. The inscription is in a sunken panel on one side of the pedestal in Roman capitals.
The monument stands beside a minor road east of Kellah where it is crossed by the route of the Maiden Way Roman Road. It was erected by the Hope Wallace family in memory of their father who lost his life in the First World War, although other sources say it was by his wife as the spot chosen is said to be where they said good-bye before going to war.
